Instructions
In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is fully dissolved. Do not boil. Remove from heat and let cool.
Juice fresh limes and lemons (if using) and strain to remove pulp and seeds.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together lime juice, lemon juice, cooled simple syrup, and optional orange juice or zest.
Transfer to a glass bottle or pitcher and refrigerate until ready to use. Chill for at least 30 minutes for best flavor.
To make a margarita, mix 3 oz tequila, 2 oz margarita mix, and 1 oz orange liqueur. Shake with ice and serve in a salt-rimmed glass.
Notes
